Artificial intelligence (AI) is driving transformative advancements in our economy and society, with the potential to power new discoveries in science, medicine, agriculture, and many other areas. At the same time, AI is being used in many ways that pose real risks to our civil liberties, data privacy, intellectual property, and fundamental right to be treated as individual Americans.
As the Founder and Co-Chair of the Senate’s bipartisan AI Caucus and a member of Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s bipartisan AI working group, I’m committed to developing smart policy that invests in American innovation and delivers the benefits of AI, while also establishing guardrails to protect against AI’s risks. I was proud to pass my Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act through the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act to develop a national strategy around our nation's AI leadership, as well as my Artificial Intelligence for the Armed Forces Act to advance the Department of Defense’s AI capabilities. I am committed to continuing this work to ensure advancements in AI are a benefit to our economy, society, and country.
