Heinrich Statement On The Departure Of Secretary Ken Salazar

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich released the following statement after Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced he will step down from his post in March:

“Secretary Ken Salazar has had a distinguished career in public service and I applaud him for his unwavering commitment to preserving and protecting our country’s most treasured lands. As a steward who brought a fresh approach to conserving our water, land, and wildlife, including establishing the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge and the Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Area, Secretary Salazar’s work will have an everlasting legacy in New Mexico. His community-based approach to managing development of our domestic energy resources and his promotion of clean energy sources have shown how our public resources can be managed responsibly while preserving our lands, water, and wildlife. Secretary Salazar also ushered in a new era of consultation and collaboration with our nation’s Indian tribes.

“I enjoyed working with my friend Ken Salazar and wish him the best as he returns to his home state of Colorado.”
