WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement on the proposed budget agreement authored by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI):
"This bipartisan budget agreement will prevent a government shutdown and is an important step toward undoing some of the damaging across-the-board cuts from the sequester. The sequester cuts and Congress's inability to compromise on spending and revenue over the last several years have been a drag on the economy. At the very least, this agreement will give the economy the near-term stability it needs and Congress time to deal with long-term fiscal concerns. I will look closely at the details of this budget and evaluate how it meets the needs of New Mexicans and our country as a whole."
