WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 28, 2017) — Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) questioned key officials during a Senate Select Committee on Intelligence open hearing to examine Russia’s interference in recent and future European elections. The Committee heard testimony from Ambassador Nicholas Burns of Harvard University, Director of NATO Strategic Communication Center of Excellence Janis Sarts, Ambassador Vesko Garcevic of Boston University, and Dr. Constanze Stelzenmueller of the Brookings Institution. The witnesses discussed Russian activities in the French and Montenegrin elections and looked forward to Germany’s fall election.
This was the latest in a series of open hearings to provide the American people further context and understanding of Russian efforts to undermine democratic institutions at home, and abroad.
