TODAY: Heinrich Bills To Designate Gila River As Wild & Scenic; Authorize Investments In Early Childhood, K-12 Education To Be Featured In Key Hearing

WASHINGTON – Today, Tuesday, June 7, at 1 p.m. MT/ 3 p.m. ET, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, will have several legislative priorities featured during a hearing in the Public Lands, Forests, and Mining Subcommittee. Senator Heinrich’s legislation that will receive testimony includes the M.H. Dutch Salmon Greater Gila Wild and Scenic River Act to designate portions of the Gila River, its watershed and other rivers in the Gila National Forest as Wild and Scenic Rivers. The legislation will be a boon to New Mexico’s outdoor economy, while protecting an irreplaceable natural resource for future generations of New Mexicans.

The Subcommittee will also consider the New Mexico Education Enhancement Act, a bill introduced by Senator Heinrich to provide federal approval for the State of New Mexico’s proposal to invest Land Grant Permanent Fund (LGPF) dollars into early childhood education.
