ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) championed a game changing rebate program in the Inflation Reduction Act that will make all of the cost-saving and health benefits of home electrification projects a reality for more New Mexico families. Today, Senator Heinrich met with local labor leaders to discuss how the Inflation Reduction Act creates good-paying union jobs that will help reduce emissions across every sector of our economy. The law includes some of the strongest labor protections and incentives ever attached to clean energy tax credit programs.

“Proud to be here today with union plumbers and electricians to talk about how the strong home electrification investments in the Inflation Reduction Act will supercharge good-paying careers like my dad’s,” said Heinrich.
During a visit with labor leaders at the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412 in Albuquerque, Senator Heinrich, Co-Chair of the Electrification Caucus, talked about how he fought to include $4.5 billion in the Inflation Reduction Act to create new point-of-sale consumer rebates for electric household appliances.
A new analysis by the Political Economy Research Institute finds that the climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act will create more than 9 million good jobs nationally over the next decade, averaging 1 million new jobs each year. The group today, which also included leaders from IBEW Local 611, discussed how local unions are preparing and training for these new jobs.
Senator Heinrich plans to continue engaging with local labor leaders as the Inflation Reduction Act is implemented, and as more families and more union workers reap the benefits of this historic legislation.
