ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Today, in his Albuquerque Office, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) met with DREAMers and parents from El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos to discuss the importance of accountable immigration reform. The group delivered a photo petition as part of its Keep New Mexico Families Together campaign, an initiative that urges the federal government and elected officials to take bold positions on immigration issues.
"As the son of an immigrant, I understand how important immigration reform is for families across the country and in New Mexico," said Sen. Heinrich, "I've met with many DREAMers in New Mexico and when you look at what they represent, you see how critically important it is for us to ensure that the DREAM Act is incorporated into accountable immigration reform."
El Centro de Igualidad y Derechos is an Albuquerque-based, grassroots organization that works to advance the rights of immigrant communities and families.
