Investment will support 4,300 jobs in New Mexico
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) are welcoming $500 million from the CHIPS and Science Act for Intel’s Rio Rancho facility. This investment will support 1,800 manufacturing jobs and 2,500 construction jobs in New Mexico.
“With today’s announcement, we’re further solidifying our state’s role as a leader in innovation and advanced manufacturing, building a better future for the hard-working people of our state, growing our economy, strengthening the middle class, and creating high quality careers New Mexicans can build their families around,” said Heinrich. “I fought hard to pass the CHIPS and Science Act because I knew it would have a transformative impact — today, we are seeing that work pay off.”
“Today’s announcement shows that New Mexico is continuing to drive innovation and is leading the way in advanced manufacturing,” said Luján. “This $500 million in CHIPS Act funding will propel Intel’s work at its Rio Rancho facility and bring thousands of good-paying jobs to our state. I’m proud to have fought to pass the historic CHIPS and Science Act, which is creating advanced manufacturing jobs here at home and boosting our nation’s position as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.”
“Thanks to our Chips and Science Act and the role that innovators like Intel play in our state’s enchanted innovation economy, we are growing domestic manufacturing,” said Leger Fernández. “For too long, we had underinvested in American manufacturing, in research and in development. As a result, we underinvested in our American workers. Under Democratic leadership, we changed all that and passed the CHIPS and Science Act to grow New Mexico’s enchanted economy with projects like this one. This funding will provide up to 4,300 jobs for New Mexicans — many of whom live in my district. That’s what I call progress.”
“Jobs like these from Intel grow our communities and ensure New Mexico continues to thrive in the future. This is exactly what we expect from our federal government,” said Stansbury. “Thanks to President Biden, the CHIPS and Science Act has been vital to advancing leading-edge industries in our state and modernizing facilities across the country.”
"I'm proud to welcome this $500 million investment in Intel's Rio Rancho facility," said Vasquez. "These 4,300 jobs will provide New Mexicans with access to high-quality careers and help position our state as a leader in the future of technology. I’m excited to see the positive impact it will have on our communities, our workforce and our economy for years to come.”
This $500 million investment is part of a larger allocation of funds that will go to both the fabrication and advanced packaging of leading-edge chips through projects in New Mexico, Arizona, Ohio, and Oregon.
New Mexico has received $523.9 million in funding through the CHIPS and Science Act. CHIPS for America has awarded over $19 billion of the over $36 billion in proposed incentives funding allocated to date.
