WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.), are welcoming $11,855,081 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program to support 21 public housing authorities across New Mexico.
“Every New Mexican deserves a safe and secure place to call home,” said Heinrich. “This funding of nearly $12 million will help local housing authorities ensure that public housing in our state is safe and livable for New Mexicans.”
“I’m proud to welcome this critical investment from the Biden administration that will help improve affordable housing in New Mexico,” said Luján. “This funding of nearly $12 million will help support local housing authorities across our state, ensuring more opportunities for New Mexicans to access a modernized living facility.”
“This $11.8 million investment from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will help local housing authorities make necessary repairs, upgrade to energy-efficient heating systems, and conserve water,” said Leger Fernández. “Everyone deserves to live with dignity in a safe, reliable location. The $6 million going to housing authorities across my district will help New Mexicans do just that.”
"Stable housing changes lives," said Stansbury. "This money from the HUD Capital Fund Program means more New Mexicans will have access to newly built or modernized facilities. The nearly $12 million coming to our state will help create lasting generational change."
“Affordable, safe housing is a fundamental human need. I'm proud to welcome nearly $12 million to New Mexico to support over 20 housing authorities across the state," said Vasquez. "This investment will help build and revitalize housing, ensuring safer, more modern public housing options for New Mexican families.”
New Mexico will receive a total of $11,855,081 in federal funding from HUD. The grants announced today are an increase of over $133,000 from last year’s funding level. This annual funding program for public housing authorities supports building, renovating, and modernizing public housing across New Mexico. Housing authorities can use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating systems and installing water conservation measures.
