N.M. Congressional Delegation Welcome $2.8 Million In FAA Grants For New Mexico Airports

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) announced a total of $2,865,326 in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for eight airports in New Mexico to repair runways, taxiways, and other infrastructure.

 

“Local airports help sustain and grow our economy. They also play an important role in connecting families and communities, to one another and to health care and other services,” said Heinrich. “These funds will allow several of our airports to make needed infrastructure improvements to better support rising demand for air travel while keeping passengers safe.”

 

“New Mexico’s airports help connect our communities and drive local economies. I’m proud to welcome over $2.8 million in grants for eight airports across New Mexico to make critical updates and repairs,” said Luján. “As a member of the Commerce Committee, I’ll continue fighting for investments in New Mexico’s transportation and infrastructure that spur economic growth and keep New Mexicans safe.”

 

“These funds will make sure that rural airports from San Juan to Clayton can stay open to flight traffic, support economic growth, and provide transportation to rural areas,” said Rep. Leger Fernández. “When a plane taxis into Roswell Air Center to be repaired, or repainted, it may go on to save lives on SAR flights, fighting fires, or to transport medical supplies across the country. These resources help enable small places to do big things.”

 

“Rural airports are crucial to connecting our communities with economic opportunity—and I am proud that federal funding is continuing to deliver for Moriarty and Roswell,” said Stansbury. “New Mexicans are strong and resilient—and deserve the federal investments in all of our communities to match our boundless potential.” 

 

“Rural airports are essential for communities like Lordsburg and Belen to stay connected,” said Vasquez. “I’m proud to see more than $1.2 million in federal funding delivered to my district to improve runways and prepare for future development at these airports.”
