ICYMI: Heinrich On NBC Meet The Press Now On Fighting Inflation With Climate Action

WASHINGTON – As Americans deal with rising energy prices caused by a reliance on fossil fuels, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is calling for Congress and the Biden administration to act on legislative and executive initiatives that will lower energy costs for working families.

Meet The Press

During an interview today on NBC Meet The Press Now with Chuck Todd, Senator Heinrich expressed that “41% of the inflation that we’re seeing is directly tied to increasing prices in fossil fuel commodities like gasoline.”

During the interview, Senator Heinrich welcomed today’s executive actions on climate and extreme heat from the Biden administration as a “good first step […] that can make a meaningful difference in decarbonizing our economy.

When asked about the path forward in Congress to fight inflation and the climate crisis, Senator Heinrich replied that we need a climate bill that “switches [America] over to cleaner, cheaper sources of energy” that will “bring down the cost of energy for consumers.”
