Heinrich Welcomes $1.4 Billion Space Force Contract For Albuquerque-Based Company BlueHalo

Senator Heinrich led the effort to establish the Space Rapid Capabilities Office in the FY18 NDAA

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, is welcoming an announcement that the U.S. Space Force has awarded a $1.4 billion contract to Albuquerque-based company, BlueHalo, for enabling the modernization of satellite operations.

“Throughout my years in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, I’ve been proud to support New Mexico’s growing role as a leader in emerging defense and space technologies,” said Heinrich. “I’m proud that the U.S. Space Force has recognized BlueHalo as a leader in space satellite operations capabilities. This $1.4 billion investment further solidifies New Mexico’s stance as the go-to destination for all things space. I will continue working to build up space equities across the state to bring new jobs and stimulate our economy.”

The award is for the Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource (SCAR) program. This effort will include full lifecycle development from initial design through full rate production. The SCAR program will deliver premier satellite operations capability—maximizing automation, flexibility, and commonality while enabling continuous modernization.

Senator Heinrich led the effort to establish the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO) in the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). SpRCO is a direct reporting unit of the U.S. Space Force.

Senator Heinrich recently welcomed BlueHalo’s announcement to expand its existing New Mexico campus through significant improvements and capital investments in an existing facility located in Albuquerque’s Sandia Science and Technology Park.
