Heinrich To Travel To U.S.-Mexico Border Region In New Mexico To Discuss Immigration Reform

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will travel to the U.S.-Mexico border region in New Mexico this week to get a firsthand look at issues affecting the area and to discuss immigration reform. Sen. Heinrich will speak at a community event organized by New Mexico Communities in Action and Faith (CAFé) and meet with the Border Industrial Association. The trip comes as a bipartisan group of eight senators introduced a bill to fix our nation's broken immigration system.

Sen. Heinrich is a strong advocate for accountable immigration reform. Following the introduction of the bipartisan immigration bill in the U.S. Senate earlier this month, Sen. Heinrich released a video statement with his reaction. He said, "Successful reform should include a visa system that meets the needs of our economy, a plan that ensures security along our borders, and a tough but fair path to earned citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented individuals in our country...New Mexicans are eager for a solution, DREAM Act students deserve a solution, and our economy requires a solution."
