Heinrich To Tour Carlsbad Caverns, Highlight Great American Outdoors Act Funding

ROSWELL, N.M. – On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park to discuss how the Great American Outdoors Act, a law he championed in Congress, is boosting New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy and allowing the Park to address long-running infrastructure challenges.

Senator Heinrich will tour Carlsbad Caverns National Park with Park Superintendent Doug Neighbors. The Great American Outdoors Act, signed into law last year, fully and permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and makes record investments in the outdoor recreation economy. The law includes a measure championed by Senator Heinrich to extend funding to address maintenance backlogs at all four public lands agencies and the Bureau of Indian Education.

Senator Heinrich will also see the Park’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint by implementing rooftop solar projects.
