Heinrich To Speak At Press Conference On Rollback Of Clean Power Plan

New Trump administration plan would release 12 times as much climate change-causing carbon pollution into air and environment than Obama Clean Power Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, will speak at a press conference today, Tuesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. MT/12:30 p.m. ET with leading climate and public health advocates to outline the damage the Trump administration's plan to replace the Clean Power Plan will do to the environment, public health, and climate change progress.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a rule today that will gut the Obama administration's plan that would have cut power plant emissions of carbon pollution by 19 percent by 2030 and smog forming pollutants by more than 22 percent. In contrast, the Trump administration Dirty Power Plan proposal would cut CO2 emissions from 2005 levels only by between 0.7 percent and 1.5 percent over that time.
