Heinrich To Speak At National Wilderness Conference

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will deliver remarks at the Opening Ceremony for the National Wilderness Conference in Albuquerque today, Wednesday, October 15, 2014.  The conference is the first national gathering of the wilderness community in 25 years, and will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act.

"With New Mexico's rich history of conservation, I can't think of a better place to celebrate this incredible milestone," said Sen. Heinrich. "Our state welcomes conservation leaders, scientists, sportsmen, educators, land managers, outdoor enthusiasts and others from across the country as we not only mark the past 50 years of the Wilderness Act, but also look toward the future of protecting America's most treasured natural landscapes for generations to come."

Senator Heinrich was recently with presented with the John P. Saylor Wilderness Leadership Award for his conservation efforts during his years serving in the House and Senate. The award--given by the Wilderness Society, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Sierra Club, and the Campion Advocacy Fund--is named after former Representative John P. Saylor, a Republican from Pennsylvania who was the lead sponsor of the Wilderness Act in the House.
