WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tomorrow, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. MT/ 9:30 a.m. ET, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will question key officials during a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing on the potential for oil and gas exploration and development in the non-wilderness portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. There will be three witness panels. The first panel will include witness testimony from Alaskan elected officials. The second panel will consist of Alaskan tribal government officials, Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor and a federal representative from the Fish and Wildlife Services. The third panel will consist of expert witnesses from various corporations, non-profits and experts in Alaskan wildlife.
Senator Heinrich is an original cosponsor of legislation to designate a portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as wilderness and recently called for the removal of Arctic Refuge drilling from the Republican budget.
