WASHINGTON – Today, Tuesday, May 10, at 2 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. MT at the House Triangle of the U.S. Capitol, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.)will join U.S. Representatives Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.) for an in-person press conference to discuss newly introduced legislation to reform the nation’s antiquated Mining Law of 1872.
A livestream will be available HERE.
Senator Heinrich, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee recently introduced the Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act. Representative Grijalva, Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, introduced similar legislation in the House.
At the press conference, lawmakers along with organizations supportive of the legislation will discuss their legislation and the importance of reforming the nation’s 150-year-old mining law, especially given the increasing demand for critical minerals necessary for a clean energy transition.
Modernizing the nation’s mineral leasing system will address major environmental justice concerns, protect our public lands, and ensure a fair return for American taxpayers.
