ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will participate in an Amtrak Southwest Chief ride-along on Saturday, July 12, making several stops from Raton to Las Vegas to discuss the future of the route and its economic impact on local communities. There will be a stop at the Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron to meet with leaders of the Boy Scouts of America camp. This summer, more than 5,000 scouts and their leaders used the Amtrak service at Raton to reach the ranch.
Senator Heinrich has supported capital improvements to Amtrak's Southwest Chief route, which helps connect rural communities to major cities and spurs economic development in New Mexico.
There will be media availabilities at each stop. All times are approximate since this is not a regularly scheduled train. Media is advised to arrive 15-20 minutes before the train departure times.
