SOCORRO, N.M. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will meet with students and faculty at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology on Friday, February 22, 2013. A strong advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education, and the only engineer in the senate, Sen. Heinrich will receive an overview from New Mexico Tech President Dr. Dan Lopez and tour the Mechanical Engineering Department and the IRIS-PASSCAL Instrument Center.
Department Chair Dr. Warren Ostergren will lead a tour of the Mechanical Engineering Department and its labs, and students will have the opportunity to present their current projects to Sen. Heinrich. Then, Dr. Rick Aster will lead Sen. Heinrich on a tour of the Instrument Center, which is the world’s largest and the nation’s only federally-funded lending library of seismology equipment.
