WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will be in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2.
On Wednesday afternoon, Senator Heinrich will deliver the keynote address at the Southwest Clean Energy Transmission Summit. The event is hosted by the Energy Future Coalition and its "Americans for a Clean Energy Grid" electric transmission initiative. Senator Heinrich, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, is a staunch proponent of growing New Mexico's clean energy economy and building a robust 21st century transmission infrastructure.
On Thursday morning, Senator Heinrich will help kick-off the groundbreaking of the new SolarCity facility in Albuquerque. SolarCity recently announced its plan to expand to New Mexico and will make MyPower solar loans available to homeowners across the state. The company expects to hire 50 local employees.
On Thursday afternoon, Senator Heinrich will highlight free tax preparation services provided by Tax Help New Mexico at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM). Senator Heinrich's office has collaborated with Tax Help New Mexico during tax season to assist residents at locations across the state. Tax Help New Mexico, which is operated in partnership between CNM and the United Way of Central New Mexico, is a free service for people whose household income is $53,000 or less or those who are 65 years or older. Tax Help volunteers are certified by the IRS and are trained to help taxpayers identify tax credits for which they're entitled to.
