Virtual Panel Will Discuss Future Of Outdoor Recreation Economy, Climate Action
WASHINGTON – Today, Friday, January 22, 2021 at 2 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will participate in a virtual panel hosted by the Outdoor Industry Association as part of Outdoor Retailer, North America’s largest tradeshow in the outdoor industry drawing attendees from around the world.
The virtual panel, “Thriving People, Thriving Planet and Thriving Businesses: The Biden Administration, the 117th Congress and the Outdoor Recreation Economy,” will look at how the new Biden administration and Congress can work to protect public lands, tackle the climate crisis, expand access to the outdoors, and help the outdoor recreation industry recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 116th Congress, Senator Heinrich championed the Great American Outdoors Act becoming law. The bipartisan legislation fully and permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and will make record investments in the outdoor economy. Senator Heinrich has also called for support for outdoor recreation and public land infrastructure jobs, the creation of a national outdoor recreation plan, and is working to expand national service programs to help address the unemployment crisis through a 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps.
Recently, Senator Heinrich welcomed the launch of Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E., a national outdoor equity initiative created by Black, Indigenous, and leaders of color from states and organizations across the country. The initiative will act as a blueprint for outdoor equity legislation Senator Heinrich plans to introduce soon.
