LAS CRUCES – On Monday, December 18, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will host a roundtable conversation with Doña Ana County Sheriff Kim Stewart and community members to discuss his newly introduced gun legislation, the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion Act (GOSAFE) Act. At 1:30 p.m. MT, Heinrich will host a roundtable discussion with law enforcement, students, parents, and school and public officials about how his newly introduced gun legislation, the GOSAFE Act, would protect New Mexican communities from gun violence and save lives. Heinrich will host a brief media availability following the roundtable discussion.

At 3 p.m. MT, Heinrich will tour New Mexico’s first federally Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCHBC) and discuss how investments he helped secure in Congress are supporting providers and improving patients’ access to quality behavioral health care.

Background: During his tenure in Congress, Heinrich has worked to secure and deliver countless investments that tackle New Mexico’s mental health crisis. Most recently, Heinrich, a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, secured $450,000 in the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) Omnibus for Families & Youth Innovations Plus (FYI+) in Las Cruces to develop the first certified CCHBC in New Mexico. This investment was instrumental in helping FYI+ achieve federal certification for behavioral health services, lowering costs for providers, and helping to improve and expand services for New Mexicans seeking care across the state.
