Heinrich To Honor Hometown Hero And San Juan County Emergency Manager Mike Mestas For Public Service During COVID-19 Pandemic

AZTEC, N.M. – On Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will present San Juan County Emergency Manager Mike Mestas with an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol for his contributions to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in recognition as a Heinrich Hometown Hero

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Mestas coordinated stakeholder calls with first responders, state and federal agencies, school districts, home health companies, nursing homes, clinics, hospitals, National Guard and homeless shelters working to mitigate COVID-19 cases. Mr. Mestas played a critical role in securing and distributing PPE for the community He has a long history of fighting for his community, previously stepping up to the plate during the Gold King Mine spill in 2015, and a half dozen other disaster declarations.
