ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – Tomorrow, Saturday, December 21, from 2-4 p.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), will hold an event in Alamogordo to celebrate the final passage of legislation he introduced to designate White Sands National Park. Heinrich will share his appreciation for the strong community support for the creation of a new national park.
In March, Heinrich introduced the White Sands National Park Establishment Act, a bill to designate White Sands National Monument a national park. The provision was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020, which overwhelmingly passed the Senate this week and will soon be signed into law.
Becoming a national park would immediately bring White Sands new attention and prominent inclusion in global and domestic travel materials, attracting more visitors and allowing for even better resource protection, interpretation, and visitor experiences.
***Press interested in attending should RSVP at press@heinrich.senate.gov or call (202) 228-1578.***
