Heinrich To Highlight Clean Energy Economy, New Facilities At Kirtland Air Force Base And Deliver Speech At KIDS COUNT Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Monday, June 29, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will be in Albuquerque to highlight the clean energy economy, participate in the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center Ribbon Cutting and Groundbreaking, and deliver a speech at the New Mexico Voices for Children Annual KIDS COUNT Conference.

Senator Heinrich will start the day in Albuquerque with the U.S. Green Building Council touring the Silver Gardens Apartments and Casitas de Colores in an effort to highlight the clean energy economy and energy efficiency programs. Silver Gardens Apartments and Casitas de Colores are LEED Platinum Certified, mixed-income communities uniquely designed using energy conservation strategies. Both communities feature solar panels installed using the federal Solar Investment Tax Credit established by the Energy Policy Act of 2015, and construction was supported by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.

In the afternoon, Senator Heinrich will participate in a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, a new world-class facility at Kirtland Air Force Base. Senator Heinrich played a key role in securing funding for the project as a member of the House Armed Services Committee in 2011.

Finally, Senator Heinrich will deliver a speech entitled, Two Generation Economic Empowerment, at the New Mexico Voices for Children Annual KIDS COUNT Conference. In the speech, Senator Heinrich will unveil the details of legislation he will introduce to dramatically improve the approach to ending the cycle of poverty in America.
