WASHINGTON -
Today, Wednesday, December 14, at 1 p.m. ET/11 a.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will deliver remarks at the
White House Electrification Summit to explore how electrification can help the United States meet its climate and equity goals, while lowering costs, creating jobs, and improving air quality.
The event will be livestreamed.
The summit, hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Climate Policy Office, and Office of Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, will convene energy and environmental leaders from government, industry, academia, and stakeholder groups to showcase the unprecedented opportunities for electrification created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act and have robust conversations about an updated electrification innovation strategy.
Senator Heinrich, founder and co-chair of the first-ever bicameral Electrification Caucus, is a champion for policies to electrify homes, commercial buildings, and vehicles. He established a new rebate program in the Inflation Reduction Act that provides upfront, point-of-sale rebates for the purchase and installation of electric appliances and equipment in single-family homes and multifamily buildings, with additional support for low- and moderate- income households. Over $87 million will be available to the State of New Mexico and Tribes in the state from the Inflation Reduction Act for consumer home energy rebate programs, enabling communities to make homes more energy efficient, upgrade electric appliances, and cut energy costs.
