WASHINGTON, D.C. - U. S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will deliver a keynote address at the International Symposium for Personal and Commercial Spaceflight (ISPCS) on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Las Cruces. Senator Heinrich's speech, entitled, "A New Frontier: From the Land of Enchantment to Space," will focus on the considerable expertise New Mexico offers the commercial space industry and federal policies needed to advance the industry further.
"We are at a pivotal time in our nation's space history. The retirement of the Space Shuttle and increased tensions abroad have created fundamental challenges and opportunities in ensuring the security and continuity of our nation's access to space. The partnership between the commercial space industry, academia, and our federal government exists to address these challenges and drive innovation. And for the first time, commercial spaceflight is becoming a reality," said Sen. Heinrich. "We must all be committed to strengthening our partnerships, and New Mexico is well positioned to contribute to America's overall space strategy and propel the industry forward. Our state is home to the assets, capabilities, and talent necessary to lead the industry and support the most ambitious commercial ventures."
Organized by the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium and its partners, ISPCS has set the industry standard for commercial space conferences over the past 10 years. ISPCS is the only conference solely dedicated to developing the commercial space industry. For more information about this year's symposium, please visit http://www.ispcs.com/
