WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) welcomed the Senate passage of S. 151, the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, a bill he cosponsored to give regulators more time to find scammers, increase civil forfeiture penalties for those caught, promote call authentication and blocking adoption, and bring relevant federal agencies and state attorneys general together to address impediments to criminal prosecution of robocallers who intentionally flout laws. The bill passed by a vote of 97-1 yesterday.
“We have hung up the phone on illegal robocall scams,” said Heinrich. “I am proud to support the passage of the TRACED Act, which keeps intentional violators of telemarketing laws at bay and accountable to law enforcement. This is a win for everyone.”
