WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day:
“There is no greater service than answering the call to defend our nation. On this day, we all pause to offer our profound gratitude for all those dedicated Americans who have served our country and reflect on their many sacrifices.
“This year, as we mark the 75th Veterans Day since our nation’s victory over fascism and tyranny in the Second World War, we remember the invaluable contributions New Mexicans made in that war effort—from the Navajo Code Talkers who developed an unbreakable code to the Bataan Survivors who demonstrated unthinkable perseverance and resolve. I am equally grateful to all New Mexicans who served in other conflicts overseas as well as those New Mexicans who continue to serve us today at our state’s military installations and all around the globe.
“Military veterans deserve so much more than our thanks and appreciation. We must also provide them with the best care, benefits, and opportunities that they earned through their service. I will never stop fighting to ensure that all of our veterans and their families, who have sacrificed so much, receive the best education, housing, and health care.
“On this Veterans Day, and on all days, let’s honor all those who have demonstrated immense courage and patriotism in service to our great country.”
