WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. strike in Syria:
“Regardless of who is President, or which party occupies the White House, we have a moral obligation to act when a regime violates international law and gasses their own people with impunity. Last night, we sent an important message to the world that the United States will not stand by when chemical weapons kill dozens of innocent people, including children.
“The situation in Syria is incredibly complex. We cannot and should not become directly entangled in a civil war in the Middle East. The Trump Administration must have a strategy with an end game in sight.”
