WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement on the passing of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia:
"Justice Scalia was a dedicated jurist and public servant. For nearly 30 years, he served the Supreme Court with clarity and deep passion for the law. My thoughts and prayers are with Justice Scalia's wife, Maureen, and his family during this difficult time.
"I am disappointed that some are already shamefully suggesting a seat on our highest court should be vacant for well over a year. Senate Republicans must meet their constitutional responsibility to confirm a qualified nominee. There is no reason beyond partisan politics to deprive the American people of a fully staffed Supreme Court."
