WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:
“Last year, six radical-conservative Supreme Court Justices overturned Roe v. Wade, stripping millions of women of their right to abortion. Today, on what would have been the 50th anniversary of Roe, we must keep fighting.
“Like the overwhelming majority of the American people, I believe that a woman has a right to make her own health care decisions without the government getting between her and her medical providers. That right should not depend on what state she lives in.
“Already, the new Republican majority in the House has prioritized a national abortion ban that would block more women from making choices about their own bodies and criminalize doctors and nurses. I won’t stop fighting back until the constitutional rights of every American across the nation are protected.”
