WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement on the recusal of Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) from the House Intelligence Committee’s probe of Russian election meddling last year amid ethics accusations:
“Chairman Nunes’ bizarre behavior and inappropriate coordination with the White House compromised the integrity of the House investigation. Nothing should deter us from understanding the true nature of the Trump campaign’s connections to Russia and the extent of Russia’s manipulation of our election. We need to do everything possible to get to the truth and it is clear that Chairman Nunes was compromised by his own behavior.
“We cannot allow political pressure, party loyalty, or unsubstantiated distractions to get in the way of following the facts. I remain committed to seeing this important mission through and making sure the American people get the answers they deserve.”
