Heinrich Statement On Pope Francis' Address To A Joint Session of Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement today following Pope Francis' address to a Joint Session of Congress:

"This was a very special moment for New Mexicans and the rest of the country. Pope Francis has inspired a new generation of people, no matter where they come from, to be instruments of peace and compassion. The Pope's emphasis on the importance of family and his message of helping our neighbors and the poor is one that resonates across New Mexico. We should all heed his call to relieve suffering, address inequalities, and show mercy to the most vulnerable in our communities. It was an honor to share this experience with many New Mexicans who came to our nation's capital to be part of this historic event. May we all remember this moment as one that inspired a renewed commitment to creating a stronger and more just society where everyone, especially our children, has a fair chance to succeed."
