Heinrich Statement On Martin Luther King Jr. Day

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

“More than a half century since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, the march for full equality for all Americans is still incomplete. The glaring problems in our national character that he called on us to correct—from racism and bigotry to poverty and violence—stubbornly remain.

“But we must never forget Dr. King’s hopeful message and his call for each of us to take an active role in making our communities and our country stronger. If we are to fully realize the American Dream, and all its ideals and values, we must come together as a nation and continue the hard work of forging a more perfect union.

“So we must keep marching. We must keep striving to live up to all that our great nation stands for.”
