WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after voting for a short-term agreement to keep the government open:
“Between a near government shutdown and recklessly blowing up the deficit for tax giveaways to the rich, Republicans have failed miserably while hard-working New Mexicans continue to carry the burdens of economic uncertainty and financial hardship. New Mexicans deserve better. Republicans wasted an entire year trying to rip away health coverage from millions of Americans and pass a disastrous tax plan instead of tackling real issues like passing the DREAM Act, reauthorizing the Children's Health Insurance Program, fixing wildfire disaster funding, and keeping our promise to our veterans. Good governance should be based on finding solutions. I won't stop fighting until President Trump and Republicans finally allow us to start working for the interests of all Americans.”
