Heinrich Statement On Border Patrol Handling Of Haitian Migrants In Del Rio, Texas

WASHINGTON (Sept. 23, 2021) – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on Border Patrol’s handling of Haitian migrants in Del Rio, Texas:

"The footage of Border Patrol agents on horseback rounding up Haitian refugee families in Del Rio, Texas, is alarming and unacceptable. No person should be treated in this dehumanizing way, including those coming here to escape persecution in their home country. I will closely monitor the Department of Homeland Security’s investigation into this and ensure its findings are transparent and lead to real corrective action being taken. The United States must treat all asylum seekers with humanity and according to our laws."
