WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement regarding the passage of the bipartisan budget agreement:
“This two-year budget deal is the result of months of bipartisan negotiations and finally puts an end to the unacceptable series of short-term spending bills and fiscal crises that have held our nation’s priorities hostage to Washington’s gridlock and dysfunction.
“This bipartisan agreement is the right path forward for a long-term budget that strengthens our military and funds desperately needed programs such as community health centers, care for our veterans, and resources to fight the opioid crisis. But it has been far too difficult to get to this point. I hope that President Trump and Republicans in Congress realize the only way to deliver real results for the American people is to have both parties at the table to solve problems.
“Now Leader McConnell must keep his word and immediately allow a fair and transparent process on the floor on immigration reform – and there’s no excuse for Speaker Ryan not to do the same. President Trump created a crisis for Dreamers and we all have a moral responsibility to fix it. I will fight every step of the way to pass a bipartisan immigration deal that includes the Dream Act.”
