WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after the deadly shootings that killed eight people overnight in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area:
“Last night’s deadly assault against six Asian women in Georgia have left the families and friends of the victims and Asian American communities across the nation devastated. It is all too clear that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are facing mounting violent threats and racism fueled not only by misinformation about Covid-19, but also by long-running misogyny and xenophobia. Enough is enough. I stand with the AAPI community in New Mexico, and across our country, and strongly condemn the dangerous rise of anti-Asian racism and hate crimes that are plaguing this nation.”
