WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement on the appointment of a special counsel in the Russia investigation:
“I’ve been calling for a special counsel to be appointed for months because it ensures a level of independence, and any outcome must be seen as credible.
“On a seemingly daily—or even hourly—basis, there is a new revelation about President Trump’s recklessness, which jeopardizes our national security and threatens to undermine faith in our democratic systems. We must get to the bottom of this.”
