Heinrich Seeks To Optimize LWCF Opportunities Made Possible By Great American Outdoors Act

WASHINGTON (Feb. 10, 2022) – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, participated in a National Parks Subcommittee hearing to review the implementation of the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). Last year, Senator Heinrich championed GAOA into law, which fully and permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund and makes record investments in the outdoor recreation economy.

During the hearing, Senator Heinrich stated that in order to reach the full potential of the Great American Outdoors Act we need to "get LWCF funds out the door in a timely manner.

Senator Heinrich expressed to U.S. Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Shannon Estenoz that it is critical for the Interior Department to make the land acquisition process more efficient and eliminate appraisal delays.

Senator Heinrich supports the LWCF as a way to help preserve many treasured places in New Mexico, increase access to outdoor opportunities, and support the state’s outdoor recreation economy.
