“Approximately 72 percent of civilian intelligence workforce has been furloughed”
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, warned today that the government shutdown jeopardizes national security.
“House Republicans’ refusal to be responsible and keep the government running has serious consequences,” said Sen. Heinrich. “Approximately 72 percent of the civilian intelligence workforce has been furloughed because of the government shutdown, jeopardizing our national security and putting the lives of our men and women in uniform at risk.”
The Intelligence Community is America’s first line of defense—relying on its agencies and activities to warn us of threats, to prevent terrorist attacks, and to provide information for a broad set of national security decisions.
