WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 11, at 2 p.m. MT/4 p.m. ET, U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and U.S. Representatives Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), will host a teleconference for reporters to discuss their bipartisan effort to repeal the so-called “Cadillac tax” on high premium employer-sponsored health insurance. On the call, new polling will be highlighted that shows Americans are deeply concerned about rising out-of-pocket health costs, and the impact the 40 percent tax has on their deductibles and cost sharing.
The lawmakers wrote to House and Senate leadership yesterday calling for a vote in the Senate on their bipartisan, bicameral legislation to repeal the so-called “Cadillac tax.” Legislation introduced by Representatives Courtney and Kelly (H.R. 748) to fully repeal the tax passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming 419-6 vote earlier this year. Identical legislation introduced by Senators Heinrich and Rounds (S. 684) has 63 bipartisan cosponsors.
Last week, more than 1,000 employers and stakeholders sent a letter, underscoring the breath of support for repeal.
