During the hearing, Senator Heinrich pressed Haspel on her involvement in the CIA's torture program and destruction of evidence of that torture. Senator Heinrich questioned Hapsel on whether the CIA would get back in the business of enhanced interrogation if she were ordered to do so by President Trump. Haspel would not clarify whether she felt the enhanced interrogation techniques used after the 9/11 attacks were moral or consistent with American values.
Senator Heinrich led a letter today demanding for all senators to have access to the investigation report written by U.S. Attorney and former special prosecutor John Durham regarding the destruction of videotapes by the CIA, known as the Durham report, before voting on Haspel’s nomination. Senator Heinrich has raised concerns with Acting CIA Director Haspel and has made repeated calls for the declassification of information related to her background.
