ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) made several stops from Raton to Las Vegas on the Amtrak Southwest Chief with Amtrak CEO Joe Boardman to discuss the future of the route and its economic impact on local communities. They stopped at stations in Raton, Springer, and Las Vegas, including a special visit to Philmont Scout Ranch where Senator Heinrich met with leaders of the Boy Scouts of America camp.

This summer, more than 5,000 scouts and their leaders used the Amtrak service at Raton to reach the ranch near Cimarron. Senator Heinrich has supported capital improvements to Amtrak's Southwest Chief route, which helps connect rural communities to major cities and spurs economic development in New Mexico.
