Heinrich Named To Senate Commerce Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) has been appointed to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. He will temporarily fill the seat left vacant by the death of New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg until the special election on October 16. The committee has jurisdiction over all matters relating to science and technology, oceans policy, transportation, communications, and consumer affairs.

"I am honored to serve on the Senate Commerce Committee that oversees a range of issues important to New Mexico and that have a direct impact on our economy, including infrastructure development, technology, and transportation," said Sen. Heinrich.

Senator Lautenberg, a Democrat who was first elected in 1982, died on June 3, 2013.  

Senator Heinrich will keep his current positions on the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Select Committee on Intelligence, and Joint Economic Committee.
