Heinrich Launches Virtual Job Fair To Assist New Mexicans Seeking Employment

WASHINGTON - In an effort to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on New Mexico’s economy, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) announced the launch of a Virtual Job Fair, held in conjunction with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, and the University of New Mexico (UNM).

The Virtual Job Fair, hosted on the senator’s website, includes a series of virtual presentations and other resources aimed at supporting and assisting New Mexicans seeking employment. These resources will connect New Mexicans with employers looking to hire, as well as provide information on how to find current job openings, and navigating local, state, and federal websites to search for and apply to job opportunities.

“These last months have been some of the most challenging that many of us will ever face. The immense disruption brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has left thousands of hardworking New Mexicans looking for new employment,” said Heinrich. “I remain committed to doing everything in my power to rebuild strong economies in every part of our state. I hope the resources provided through my Virtual Job Fair can offer help and guidance to New Mexicans looking for work. I’m grateful to OPM, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, and UNM for partnering in this effort.”

"Governor Lujan Grisham, and her entire administration, believe strongly that we need to work through this Pandemic together," said Bill McCamley, Secretary of the New Mexico Workforce Solutions Department. "We are proud to work with Sen Heinrich to show New Mexicans where they can find employment now, and how to make sure workers and employers open up the economy safely."

“As one of the largest employers in New Mexico, we are especially proud to connect UNM with job seekers through this event. We enthusiastically support Sen. Heinrich’s efforts to provide New Mexicans job opportunities that will allow them to contribute to the growth and success of our state, particularly during the challenging economic times brought on by the current public health emergency,” said Garnett S. Stokes, President of the University of New Mexico.

“OPM is happy to partner with Senator Heinrich to host this job fair. The Trump Administration has issued multiple hiring flexibilities to allow Federal agencies to rapidly hire personnel in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fair attendees can look forward to joining the ranks of dedicated civil servants and help make this country great again,” said OPM Acting Director Michael Rigas.
