Heinrich Lauds U.S. Supreme Court Decision To Expand Marriage Equality Nationwide

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of marriage equality in Obergefell v. Hodges:

"This is an historic moment for the country and it marks a significant step forward to creating a fairer, more just society. I am thrilled that the U.S. Supreme Court has declared marriage equality the law of the land in all 50 states. This ruling stands to strengthen families and affirms that loving same-sex couples who accept the responsibility of marriage are respected and recognized everywhere. I join all New Mexicans--and the entire nation--in celebrating this proud moment and give thanks to the tireless advocacy of generations before us who worked to make this day a reality."
