WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) today issued the following statement applauding the announcement that Senate Republicans and Democrats would gather together for a bipartisan lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.
"We believe that regular bipartisan gatherings, such as the one scheduled for Wednesday, can help foster the productive relationships necessary for the Senate to be effective again. These gatherings may not be a cure-all, but they're a start. We are grateful to Majority Leader McConnell and Minority Leader Reid for agreeing to place these meetings on the Senate calendar."
Last November, Flake and Heinrich led a letter signed by 30 senators calling for regular bipartisan gatherings in the hope of building better and more productive relationships among all members of the Senate.
